GABRIELS DREAM. . .
A CHARITY FOR SUDANS LOST BOYS

OUR JOURNEY WAS LONG...

BUT
WE NEVER LOST HOPE

In 1987, we were torn for everything we knew – our homes, our parents, and our way of life.  We were just small boys, ages 4 – 11, when the Arabs attacked our villages, killing our families and burning our homes – forcing us to flee and endure circumstances that no child should ever have to suffer.

More than 30,000 of us journeyed thousands of miles for five years trying to find a safe place.  Starving and frightened, barefooted and alone, we crossed deserts, mountains and crocodile infested rivers. Pursued by enemy tanks, soldiers, lions and hyenas, we pressed on.  More than 18,000 of our brothers died.  We wandered for five years.  NO ONE HELPED US.

Finally, we were rescued and taken to a refugee camp where we lived on one meal and a gallon of water a day for 9 years.  It was not a good life.  We had no medical care, and many were sick and suffering from injuries.  More brothers died there.

Resettled… the journey continues

In 2001, about 400 of us were resettled in Arizona.  Now we are here, but our journey is not over.  Most of us are unskilled, so we work at low paying jobs, struggling to make it.  Most of us have serious dental problems, and some have need of medical help.

We say “How can we make it with no parents to help us?”  How will we do it?  We want to make our lives better; go to college, get good jobs, and become responsible citizens, so you will be proud of us.

WITH YOUR HELP… WE CAN MAKE IT!!!

“I am giving my thanks to God.  He let me suffer since I
was 7 years old  without my parents up until now, but he
gave me a reward special.  He lets me meet wonderful
people called American so now I am feeling I am with
my parents.” Deng Deng Koch
